Live Steam in Houston

Not exactly continental, but I just found out the Union Pacific are bringing their No. 844 (a 4-8-4) to Houston as I type this and will be celebrating their 150th anniversary with an event this weekend in Downtown Houston (at the AMTRAK station).

She's on her way here from Shreveport, LA. Looks like she'll be passing by my neighborhood on her way into Houston. I'm going to try to see her go thru tomorrow.

Not the best movie, but here she is, UP844 highballing through Porter, Texas (a few miles north of my home). Very impressive in person.


The consist included an extra water tender, a helper diesel, and about a dozen coaches. I would estimate the speed at 50-60 mph.
