| Great video, but did I catch a reference to "Basle" in one of the early takes? You have a great "Resau", and it looks like the perfect venue for a winter meet whilst those of us with outdoor layouts gaze dolefully out the window at our waterlogged garden layouts | |

| Hi Brian, Yes - Basle / Bâle / Basel / Basilea is a reference on the warehouse wall on the Welsh side of the layout. And that particular town is around 2km away from the layout. And yes, while some of you out there are either shovelling snow (or perhaps using the specially designed snowplough), I´ve been down in cellar installing another lighthouse. But that will have to wait ... | |

| That´s all the pics for the moment, as the servimg.com app has decided that that´s enough. | |

| Finally got round to planting the trees - which involved polystyrene behind the wall and some paint - but primarily gymnastics on my part. I should think about these things before hand. And with a little luck, and more gymnastics, I can get rid of that ugly concrete pillar painted blue to the right of the photo. I have a K&NWLR company warehouse in mind which should at least disguise it. Removing the pillar entirely would cause the house to collapse, which I understand from the current Mrs K&NWLR is not desirable. | |

| Let´s see whether this works. I´ve posted a couple of pics to the gallery with the new company warehouse. This pic is after some initial site preparation, cliff rebuilding and tree planting. Still lots to do, as can be seen from the mess in front of the building. In the background, you can see the mockup of the rack railway terminus station. And here a view from a higher level, looking over from the viaduct. You can see the concrete pillar that the building is designed to disguise. What can´t be seen is the mess to the right of the building, where a good deal of scenery work still has to be done. The platform for the front of the building, with a separate crane, also needs to be built .... | |

You haven´t lived until you´ve experienced precipitation in the safety of your own cellar. However, I have purchased two of Mr Vacuum Cleaner-Whatsisname´s cool design electric heaters:sunny:, so the weather on the K&NWLR has now changed from sleet to a thin drizzle.

| K&NWLR: New warehouse by kandnwlr, on Flickr Having demolished the first attempt at the platform, here´s a version using styrodur and French polyfilla to even out the surface before using plywood as a base for plastic card slate paving stones. To the right of the warehouse, was a scene of destruction, caused by K&NWLR deciding to redesign this corner of the line to hide the concrete pillar using the building. K&NWLR: Trees to right of warehouse by kandnwlr, on Flickr The strip of vegetation leading up the slope next to the right hand side of the warehouse hides frantic backfilling with whatever was to hand, the cover of plaster, scribing and planting of stuff to cover up most of the incompetence. I couldn´t resist doing a little more work on the rockface to the right, before planting trees to hide the most obvious disasters. I ran out of bushes, though .... K&NWLR: New warehouse by kandnwlr, on Flickr Nice reflection of the crane in the window. Slightly less professional bit of white reflection in the window too, which is the little step ladder I climb on before leaning too far and falling on my work (most delicate part of modelling squashed first). The broom to the left of the barrels is there to hide the fact that there is a gap between the wall of the warehouse and the less than successful bits of wooden dry-stone walling to the right at the moment. | |

| I´m a fan of Woodland Scenics stuff, but the trees - if that´s what you´re asking about - are mostly made using wire and plaster / tape for the trunks. I´m practicing at the moment with Woodland Scenics plastic trees for shrubs and similar, but it´s early days. Hope this helps. | |

| Wow, that's a really nice and pictuesque layout. It makes me wish to see it live. What dimensions do it have? Was the K&NWLR real or is it just a fictional line? | |

The layout is in my cellar in Alsace and measures 6m x 14m. For my own pleasure, I´ve combined Southern England (Kent) with Wales, which is quite a geographic leap. But that allows me to model two different scenes with all the little details that belong there (e.g. geology and topography, plants and trees and of course buildings ....). Gruss/Regards, Andrew

| Hi Andrew,
Dankeschön für Deine schnelle und Zweisprachige Antwort. Ich denke, Deine Anlage hat eine schöne Größe. Die Idee, Orte zu vermischen gefällt mir. So kann man bauen was einem gefällt.
Many thanks for your quick bilingual reply. I think your layout has a nice dimension. I also like the the idea of mixing different locations. It gives the posibility to built what you like.

| I whatched a few of your superp videos and wonder if the sound of the wheels is from a playback for the video or from a sound engine on your layout. | |

It´s all real noise, in fact almost too much, sometimes, though the track is underlayed with two layer of cork. The funny thing is that the sound is less on the steel bridges, leading me to think that the wooden frames and the plaster act as a huge resonance device. Well, now I know ....
