| Siporex is a trade name for cellular blocks.
They come in different sizes and densities and can easily be cut and shaped with an old saw etc...
Available at any large magasin bricolage.
I'm sure you have used those before!

| Still impressive after all these years. And I've seen it for real.
The miniature stone blocks cut from tiles are worth remembering.

The pictures of Brantome you posted Clive are wonderful and very inspirational. That whole scene with the perfect backdrop of buildings behind the station, the arched entry to the square (just what you need to link to a fiddle yard) and the river forming a boundary in front would be a perfect subject for a model railway. - mikeyh wrote:
- As you say Clive, all gone now.the station area is a carpark for the many tourists that visit Brantome (about 20k from us) the original toilets are still there; hole in the ground job that (seems) to go straight into the river!
Its one of the lines that we like tracing as a lot of buildings are still there.
mikey And how many more tourists would visit there if the tram was still running? Ack, such a tragedy that we have lost so many pretty little railways. Mikey, if you have any photos of buildings from the line that you would wish to share I would very much like to see them. Thanks. |

| Many French communes were built on the top of hills; not so much for the defensive position but rather that people could see from miles around the magnificent church that was built ( a sure sign of the wealth of the community). Even today some of these communes have access problems for powered vehicles, so in the days of horsedrawn transport it must have been a nightmare! Anyway today we've been building a roadbridge to provide a means of leaving the village centre; The ramp supporting the road will be planted with perrenials and should make a good 'photopoint' will post more when bridge walls are attached tomorrow mikey | |

| The planting is really starting to mature nicely in those pics - certainly the river has a more natural look about it. Obviously it's not 'market day' in Demeil ! I was trying to work out where the arch building is located, that you made recently - I think it's over towards the back of that latest panoramic shot, am I even close? | |

| 10.10 Clive! Just behind the church! The layout has really been done on a budget, what with mostly scratchbuilt buildings. and even the 'box' trees have been grown from cuttings from the hedge round the swimming pool. I've talked glynis into agreeing to an extension of about 30 metres so we can make another village for the tramway to have a purpose. Pretty longterm project with the current price of track!!

Mikey Joan wants to know what time of year did you take the cuttings from the 'box hedge' and what are the plants lining your stream Mikey? Peter / Joan

| for Joan from Glyn. the trees are 'Buisette' a fast growing member of the box (or buis) family. they are not cuttings as such but when the plant touches the ground it roots itself. we have dug up the 'rootball' and replanted both in may and in October. Its a really hardy plant and perfect for miniature trees1

| Following on from the bridge; put the two sides on (made from those 1 cm thick camping mattresses, ideal for old walls. these were painted by my mother to give her something to do!). a coating of mortar mix was then put on top of the concrete and smoothed. compost was piled against the ramp ( the hedging at the bottom is to help retain the soil and is made from washing up scouring pads, the colour will lighten as the sunlight hits it ) paint the bridge tomorrow and plant some iceplant. mikey | |

| As Carl said on another thread, today has been a day for playing trains! Although we have had temperatures of 24-27 degrees all week today was one of those days, humid and hot, and you just didnt feel like doing anything. So 'the team' and I played trains!; A train 'mixte' approaches the newly installed turntable (yet to be bedded in); Now the papermill Halt; Finally thanks to the team, perhaps we'll do it all again tomorrow!!'
