Managed to get started on the weeds today. It's amazing how they've grown considering we've had no rain for five weeks!!

A diary of Tramway Demiel - Page 21 Demiel004-1
A diary of Tramway Demiel - Page 21 Demiel005-1

after a couple of hours it was starting to look like a railway again

A diary of Tramway Demiel - Page 21 Demiel007

Also started the extension by firstly opening up the end curve;

It is all looking very good Mikey, Yes it is amazing how the weeds grow dispite the lack of rain, we are way down on our yearly average.
The buildings look as if they are surviving well too.

I tried an experiment this year and left all the buildings outside (and a few figures). a couple of glue joints have given way but everything else has been fine until,,,,,,,,, our french neighbours keep rabbits for meat and a few of them escaped, Most were caught but one has taken up residence underneath the Demiel church (i guess its claiming sanctuary!). I havent told the neighbours (too soft) but it is causing a bit of damage by knocking over some of the horsedrawn wagons, but c'est la vie!!

Mikey:
Looks like a loverly spring there in Demiel. We are also behind in our rainfall here in Houston - 10 inches behind where we should be this time of year. They say it's our worst drought since 1917. Anyway, it hasn't stunted the growth of weeds here, either. The wildflowers have suffered though.

Watch out for those rabbits. We had a couple of house rabbits for a while (SWMBO's idea) and discovered (and verified by google) rabbits love to chew the insulation on electric wire. I had to replace the cord on several lamps. They must be driven by some immutable force.

About the only good thing about owning those rabbits was it encouraged me to read Watership Down - quite a good book.

Been rebuilding Demiel today to make it look more 'urban' than rural, to justify the existance of a tramway; Of course the addition of a train would make it more interesting!!:

Nice pictures! It surely catch the "urban look" you are after.
Are you gonna embed the tracks in to the streets also?

thanks Paul, we will certainly try and create the illusion of embedment! Our experiments with woodash have worked to a point when the ash is in direct contact with the earth. Through the town itself we will use cat litter! Been experimenting with that for a while quite successfully.

The autorail had a breakdown this morning;

Two engineers came out and after a bit of a chat (well this is France!) managed to get it going again;

I said earlier that we were rebuilding Demiel, and I wasn't kidding::

A diary of Tramway Demiel - Page 21 001-3A diary of Tramway Demiel - Page 21 002-2

for some time I have been aware that one side of the track is slightly higher than the other so with the open weekend coming up it's time to do something about it!

hopefully raking the loose soil and compacting some cat litter (brilliant stuff for ballast!) should do the trick!

What a glorious and industrious day in Demiel.

It's not really a railway but a model village with a railway. Very Happy

cant completely level the track until some new rail joiners arrive, but there's plenty of other things to be getting on with!

Today being wednesday we had both the grandaughters at home. In order to stop them arguing as per normal i decided to gainfully employ them on the railway
One had to clean up and design a new cemetery and a farm while the older one had to resite and repair the windmill and clean-up the army exercise area:

They didn't do a bad job; so i paid them handsomely (1910 rates) 1 euro. 80 EACH!

Bit of an update on the rebuilding. In no particular order; the miller has got a new house (again made from a concrete building block, the window frames are cut from a plant holder)

A diary of Tramway Demiel - Page 21 007
the western end has been opened out to lengthen the curve;
The farm has been extended.
The trees and bushes have all been trimmed, and finally the picket siding has been tried out and is successful. tomorrow the track will be levelled and ballasted and conifers planted inside the bigger curve
