Petit problem?

When i made my autorail I powered it with a tiny motor as that was all there was room for. I now realise that it is not powerful enough to move it round the track. i am thinking of building a remorque (trailer) to hold the battery and bigger motor to power metal wheels. I'm not sure what sort of coupling would work best in order to push the thing around?

When I had OO (HO) I used Kadee couplings to great effect. They are just as good pushing as pulling.

I know they do them for G but never tried.

If you are simply pushing wouldn't a couple of standard LGB oval buffers do the job.

They are available as spares from Modell Land or Jeremy I guess !

to be honest i hadnt given KD's a thought. I want to try and preserve the look of a railcar towing a trailer but am unsure if a single towbar on a hook will move properly when its the trailer thats doing the pushing (if all that makes sense?)

How about something homemade.

The large (overscale) sprung centre buffers work best for me with hook and chain couplings.

If you're not in a hurry I could make some for you.



...or how about some sort of 'A' frame like a farm trailer. This arrangement was used with the single axle trailers and railcars on many CFDs.

thanks for that link Carl. I think an A frame is the answer; the stability would be there for sure. Now would one axle be enough or is it better with two (bearing in mind it will be permanently attached)?

The only problem with one axle would be the tendancy to pivot and push vertically on the coupling point unless there was some restriction.

Rather like the Rubery Owen/Land Rover powered trailers we saw in the army.
'Rollover Beethoven' we use to call them in Germany.

I would suggest 2 axles might be better.
