| Sorry this is nothing to do with railways but how do you say 'Let's have a party' in French? Its going to be the title of our new CD (Alainetmike.9f.com) and i dont wanna rely on the auto translators.

| Some expressions I would use are:
C'est la fête !
Allons y, une fête !
Fêtons nous would be let's party or celebrate.
Avons nous une fête (literally) doesn't quite go right.
Maybe another verb like eclater might be more appropriate in the (let's rock?) sense you're looking for Mikey.
Perhaps the native French people could be more precise....?

| I think "On fait la fête !" would sound more idiomatic.

| In English, many (young!) people now say 'u' instead of 'you' - it is mainly because of 'text-speak' that many use.
The word 'layout' is often used to mean one's railway network - en francais, on dit 'reseau' (je pense!)
So, I think to translate from the above message, would read
What scale are you interested in? Do you have any photographs of your network?
En 'google translate':
Quelle échelle êtes-vous intéressé? Avez-vous des photos de votre réseau?
ou
Quelle échelle es-tu intéressé? As-tu des photos de ton réseau?

| mon avis : Quelle échelle vous intéresse? Quelle échelle pratiquez -vous ? montrez ( présentez ) les photos de votre réseau .
My opinion: Which ladder does interest you? Which ladder do practice -you? show (present) the photos of your network (Layout )!!!!!
Pour les Français : network = réseau de presse écrite .
For the French: network = network of written press.
Avec ce forum , je réaprends l'Anglais !!!

| Daniel...tu es bienvenue chez moi pour un weekend d'apprentissage intensif d'anglais gratuit sauf quelques bouteilles d'un bon vin. If you use the word 'réseau' in French it usually means a network of some sort. That can be a rail network like the Metro RATP or RER (Réseau Express Régional) or a telephone network as well such as RNIS = ISDN. It wouldn't normally apply to a model railway although many people (inc. me) use it loosely. 'J'ai un réseau dans mon jardin'. That is a bit pretentious in reality. ................................................................................................................................... Teaching large classes in schools is a real challenge and one I'm still learning. You can take the easy option and work from books or paper but I don't do that. For me if you are learning a language you have speak it. And dealing with the teenage psyche can be daunting too especially in another culture. So after my first full week I'm going to have a good drink tonight. I had them describing their feelings today as an alternative to saying 'fine'. The best one was a really quiet lad who when asked "How are you today?" replied "I'm deadly exciting thank you, and you?" | |
