I spent last weekend in the Harz mountains looking at the originals of all those LGB and Piko locos. We had a great time. Thought you might like to see some pics.
This was the view of Wernigerode yard from my bedroom window.

Home is where the Harz is.... I love you

Must be one of the finest narrow gauge railways in the world. Did you go up to the Brocken?

What sort of trip did you do, package or DIY?

....and this 'bedroom window' I presume is a hotel and not a second house or something.

Yes, we went up the Brocken (some of us twice), travelled the lenghth of the Selketalbahn (Quedlinburg to Eisfelder Talmuhle including branches), did the NWE main line (Wernigerode to Eisfelder Talmuhle, Nordhausen was too far/involved too many diesel railcars)... all in a long weekend, Friday to Monday inclusive.

DIY package, a German friend booked the hotel, Steve and I worked out some trips in advance to get maximum steam haulage.

Bedroom is the Hotel Altora, directly opposite the loco shed. You pay more for a room at the front overlooking the engine depot, a main road and an ambulance station... scratch

I love those 2-10-2T locos. They always looked massive to me. I'm surprised though how small one looks next to the diesel.

That deisel IS massive, and of course, was standard gauge originally.
The boiler on the 2-10-2 is the same as the standard gauge class 81, so it is pretty big.
