I liked this a lot! When are we going to see more?!
Very soon I hope. I took the covers off today and started to rebuild the turntable as I wasn't happy with the motor and switching. To be resumed next week when the school half-term holidays start. BTW I'm taking some track and trains to 'work' tomorrow to use in class. We are going to see the film 'The Navigators' too as part of a study into privatisation. A good excuse to play trains.

| Exacte.... Ça marche. Je continue avec 'le paysage' et je suis entrain de construire des wagonnets et un petit locotracteur radio commandé (...pas diesel). | |

| Excellent. I love the stagnant pool.So much better than the bare tracks so often seen.
Now then Carl.Is this a new trend on the portable layout? Can I have a tram stop on the green, district line.

You can't see from the pics but my impatient daughter has her fingerprints in it...."Is it dry yet?" ' ' - Sparkeswood wrote:

Yes in a way and this will eventually form part of the greater portable layout. I need to make a couple more new boards to join them all together. There will still be live steam (and diesel of course) and there's always the possibility of running a tram or two. The problem is transport now...I need a big van!

| Barrel wagons... As discussed before both Brian and myself are using LGB barrel wagons as rolling stock. Neither of us are happy with the delirious orange and the general presence. After some thought this is my result: The original is at the end.... The two modified in the picture had the flat bed removed, smaller diameter metal wheels (from IP Engineering), simple hook and 3 link chain couplings and a repaint. The chassis is just red oxide car primer and the barrels were sprayed with matt acrylic and then lightly weathered. The skip wagon is one I weathered a long while ago, also on similar wheelsets and uses the same chassis as the barrel wagons.

| Hi Carl
Really like what you've done with the barrel wagons. Unfortunately I built my loading dock platforms to a standard LGB height, so I'll probably leave them "as is", apart from weathering down the orange colour somewhat!

| I might also make one of these wagons with a removable barrel that can be lifted by crane.... My loading dock too is higher but I'm going to build some small 'wagonnets' to put small loose barrels and crates on. I need to find a source of miniature cider bottles now..... Bertram Heyn does beer and lemonade.... And Pola of course make a variety of items. | |

| Progress with the main building. Not accurate but a representation of a traditional Normand style building. In this last picture you can see I have made a start with tiling the roof. Many buildings in this area have large diamond shape slate tiles. I am making individual card tiles but the corners have to be trimmed slightly to create the overlap. I feel this is going to be one of those theraputic 'character-building' tasks..... | |

| Here's the roof completed.... Over 1,000 individually cut tiles. I'm never doing that again. It could do with a tad more weathering perhaps. Also in the picture is a new item of motive power.... It's a very simple rudementary sort of locotracteur fabricated from some offcuts of 2.5mm mdf on top of a butchered Playmobil R/C chassis. So no worries about electrical pick up. The brake lever thing disguises the on/off toggle switch. The driver btw originally hails from the Portsmouth area... but fomerly worked as a tram driver on a line near Paris until its closure . Having been made redundant he now finds himself on the last working narrow gauge pressoir line in France. | |
