| Ever wondered what a 1:1 garden railway might look like? Today I took a few minutes off to visit the Zulauf garden centre and nursery on the way to Zurich from Basel, and found that they had left the doors open. They really did have a 60cm estate railway to carry plants around. Today it´s managed as an association, but both nursery and line are still there. You can check out the Baumschule Zulauf Schinznach on Google if you like. They had big ideas, as the pics indicate, even though some of the locos are of more "reasonable" size. I was able to sneak round the back to take a look, and yes, they had left the doors open, before opening for the public in April. Can you guess what´s under the tarp? 001 by kandnwlr, on Flickr 002 by kandnwlr, on Flickr 004 by kandnwlr, on Flickr 005 by kandnwlr, on Flickr | |

| Spring Open Day on the Schinznach "Garden" Railway, at the Zulauf Garden Centre, near Zurich. It was overcast and it rained, but the place was full of happy plant buyers and train enthusiasts. You could get as close as you like to the locos without anybody making you wear a high-viz vest or sign something in triplicate. If you think that the W&L used to get close to immovable objects or cars during its trips through Welshpool, before becoming a heritage railway, well you haven´t seen anything. Car drivers trying to get out of the garden centre risked seeing a narrow gauge locomotive bearing up behind them, faster than you might think, as the track partly shares the road inside the centre. Couldn´t be better. 036 by kandnwlr, on Flickr 030 by kandnwlr, on Flickr 029 by kandnwlr, on Flickr 019 by kandnwlr, on Flickr 017 by kandnwlr, on Flickr 015 by kandnwlr, on Flickr | |
