| Time to start anew.If it's OK Carl I'll use this thread to chronicle the trials and tribulations of my new tram and railway line which has been started this weekend. | |

No ifs required. I'm really very pleased, post away. BTW, what (has) happened to the 'old' line? ...and this new tram, I don't suppose it will be diesel powered....mmmm

| I decided to start again using the shed as a base for the layout. The tram station and depot will be in here along with a mainline passing loop and the terminus for a point to point/live steam line.I'll post a line diagram of what I'm up to when I've worked it out in my head. The existing garden line will stay operational and be upgraded and added to section by section. The shed was adapted with a good working platform at a good height fr the tram terminus.I didn't want to use too much space so I kept it fairly tight.. The back end of the shed allows two paking sidings.Due to the slope of the garden it's been very difficult to determing the levels. Armed with copious bottles of beer I did what I do best.No plans.Dive in headfirst I slung a few bits of track about and the tram terminus became qite clear. I wanted the ability to use multiple tracks from any direction.Using MTS I wanted a good busy street scene. Slips were very useful for this. This is the front end of the street... And this is the backend, again using electric double slips accompanied by points. You can see the raised section where the main lines will go through. Tram section is finished now but I forgot to take a picture.Everything is electrified from a central source.I've also allowed MTS and analogue block sections to work together so that everything on the tram line doesn't have to be chipped.Al point will be seperately analogue controlled. Can't be arsed with fiddling around. Switch...click.Basic... I'll take some more piccies tomorrow if anyone is interested. | |

| Looks pretty impressive Troy especially the shelf construction and the double slips. Also some nice stock kicking around. I did notice however that all the beer had disappeared between pics 4 and 5. | |

| Cheers Carl.I'm pretty terrible at keeping in contact arn't I. So much has gone on recently and there's so much I want to achieve with the tramway. I looked for your number in vain on my PC so if you could PM and I'll ring. Anyway. Plans are...(well not plans. This is what is what I'm building.) Trains....main line...10 amp..analogue..block control...4 locos..two stations (automatic) Train or tram...Point to point...5 amp...timed end to end (this will also be the live steam line) Trams...double loop with tram terminus....digital control with analogue route control. This should allow for a minimum of 7 vehicles to operate whilst I do nothing but watch and nurse my glass. With the tramline on digital,it allows for multiple trams all over the place... Bliss | |

| Good to see you back in action Troy. I've ended up with a similar control system - analogue for the railway and DCC for the trams. We run a couple of trams by themselves, and then try and drive a third between them - great fun ! It was your suggestion to use DCC for the trams, and its spot on- there is something very satisfying about pacing the car in front, and then pulling right up behind it. I'm looking forward to further episodes of this rebuild.....
PS How did Oscars diesel turn out in the end ?

| Nice pictures of a very impressive (re-)start! Complex looking terminus, that will make a busy street scene for sure! I assume the trams and trains go out of the shed through openings in the shed wall? Is that a Union Pacific Doodlebug on the top shelf? Very nice!!!

| I'm starting to get the 'look' that I'm after.I'll stick the brick details up later if it all works out. Some of us dabbled with them before with good effect.... | |

| Did you make the cobblestones yourself Troy or are they purchased, it looks as if you glued them individually to a plastic sub surface? They are looking fantastic anyway. | |

| Yes,they are individually laid.Only 4000 so far .A strangely calming exercise. They come from here... MinacoVery expensive for what they are but the effect is worth it. Was it Patrick that had the roofing moulds? Anyway,I' ve adjusted the road height using plastic trunking lid,and cobble on top.I can't afford to cobble the whole lot so I'm going to come up with a cunning plan | |

| Are you going to add overhead?
And where did you get the street lamp from?

| The streetlight is one salvaged from the garden in London..There were loads but I can only make about four decent ones out of the remaining bits. Overhead is a must for the shed, and hopefully all of the tramline.I want the trams to have working poles and pantographs. This might be a bit (ahem) not strictly to prototype but I have better things to do than make perfect traction poles ect I managed to lay my hands on some 'tarmac' paper.Comes on a big roll (a bit like the the grass stuff),which I'm going to use for the rest of the road.Cobbles are far too expensive I'm afraid.Progress is slow but I'm very happy to be building it.Makes a big difference having a shed for a base. You can walk away without having to put it all out of the weather. | |
