Live steam availability Empty
PostSubject: Live steam availability   Live steam availability EmptyTue Aug 30, 2011 6:32 pm

Despite all the recent live diesel activity I am still interested in live steam and find myself in the market for a very modest purchase in advance or autumn exhibitions.

What surprises me is that there is little available for sale at less than 500 euros.

I was hoping for another Accucraft Ragleth power unit but these are quickly reserved and sold out months before the next China boat arrives. 'Next delivery December, reserve now'...!

Regner has nothing currently available in the Willi/Conrad series.

And e bay is remarkably quiet but what little pass through e bay these days goes for daft money.

There is a machine at moment that is already £500 for a pile of bastardised valve gear that needs attention:

E bay steam.

So...if anyone hears/sees anything sensible in my meagre price range of about 500 euros I will be grateful for a tip off.

On Forrest Classics there are a few gauge 1 live-steam engines that run on 45 mm tracks. Kits or RTR selling between £300 and £500.
I assume you can relatively easy change the looks to make it more close to scale.

All are powered by an oscillating twin cylinder engine. Gas fired using lighter gas. Isolated wheels. Running time approximately 15 minutes.

Grass Hopper (cheapest)

Kurt and similar Emil

And the beautifull Heidi (looks bigger than Gauge 1 actually)

I just found another site Hielscher Dampfmodelle (Germany) that sells the same locomotives, including some other models, like a steam powered draisine (117 euro) and a cheap steamer Pepper (less than 300 euro) Surprised

Thanks for the links and information. I was already aware of some but not all of these interesting little machines.

I am however rather looking for something more robust and chunky if possible even secondhand.

There are some new Accucaft Ragleths about but my enquiries so far have only led to the blue version being available which sadly looks a bit too akin to 'Thomas'. Suspect

My local Train Store has a Caradoc in stock - but it's a bit above your limit at about $900.

There is a nice looking Regner Emma for sale on German ebay.

But no paypal and delivery only to Germany.

Secondhand, 500 euros with just under 3 days to go.

The kits are 758 euros new. It'll be interesting to see what that goes for.

Carl,

Have an Accucraft Caradoc,

Steamed about twelve times over the last five years,

A few bad summers plus permanent way problems, have left it idle.

Could take it with me to Expo, if you are interested.

Liam.

I could well be interested Liam, thanks.

That's the sort of loco I'm after.

I have an older (and very reliable) Caradoc too (2005) and find the build quality a little better than its Edrig successors.

The Regner Emma went for a fair price, depending of course on how it was built.
