If you wish to add links please use Bold text and Blue for French, Green for UK or USA, Brown for German or Dutch and Red for Swiss or other European and orange for the rest of the world like Japanese.

Please bear in mind that there are hundreds of of suppliers worldwide so we are trying to focus on suppliers or manufacturers with a strong continental interest or output. Hence the exclusion of Roundhouse and Accucraft UK.

I thought I might bring this to your attention, I found them to be a boon on my raised trackbed to join Accucraft track to LGB points. The weight of the large heavy diesels on curves was tending to pull the track joints apart and having the rails 2 feet above the ground I did not want any derailments.

The drilling jig allows accurate drilling of the 4 bolt holes and the fishplates, nuts and bolts soon weather in.
I have no connection with the company other than as a delighted buyer.

Just added a link to Warwick Miniatures. They were at the Wickham show, I got some 1/24 tea mugs, a kettle, a watering can, a mop-type bucket and an ordinary bucket. Just little bits and pieces that you might have scattered round to give a 'lived-in' look to your station or goods shed or signal box or whatever.

Is there anyone in Europe who manufactures narrow gauge bogie coach bodies with matchboard sides i.e. classical French or Spanish style ?

Just found this link mentioned on VML for a supplier of cast resin buildings kits - look to be American outline, but I guess you could come up with a reasonable excuse even if you weren't of that persuasion:

Sad Going to show my ignorance here. I took a look at the site and see that they do 1/2 inch scale.

Is that 1/2 inch to the foot ? ie 1:24

How do you find 1:24 buildings look against 1:22.5 rolling stock?

Cheers Brian

Brian

I can't see it being much of a problem to be honest.

For one thing, from 1:22.5 to 1:24 is not that much of a reduction (7%-ish). Also, I would have thought that people will more readily relate building sizes to the figures, as it allows for comparisons of doorway heights to that of the figures etc. Comparing a building size against an item of rolling stock is more difficult, unless it's a 'drive-through' building like a goods shed or an engine shed where there are potential loading gauge issues. Even then, it may be possible to disguise it by raising the building up on a plinth of some sort.

Also, LGB stock tends to be a bit 'liberal' with the notions of scale anyway, depending on the system being modelled - i.e. metre gauge, 760 etc. - to fit the track gauge of 45mm

Just Pinched this link off VML:

http://www.francis-miniatures.com/

I was particularly intrigued by some of the 1:22 figures they have for sale:

http://www.francis-miniatures.com/PBSCCatalog.asp?ActionID=67174912&PBCATID=229021&PBCATName=FIGURINES%20EROTIQUES%20A%20PEINDRE - check out those prices though!!! And you have to assemble and paint them yourself - I doubt very much I could keep my hands from shaking enough to do them justice!

I'd get thrown out of the house if started collecting those.

Lovely figures though. The resin ones are reasonably priced but the lead alloy ones....phew.

You could buy a real one for that price..... for about an hour round here. Embarassed I love you tongue

In my searching for canal tiles / pantile roofing products I've come across the range from Bloxxs which are genuine miniature clay tiles. I've added the Bloxxs site as a link and let you know how I get on actually purchasing them from Germany.

Also Phil has alerted me to the plastic tile sheets that Back2BaySix do, so I've added that as a link too!

Although Bloxx blocks are said to be weather proof the half dozen I had on test in my garden disintegrated badly after 2 years. They became heavily pitted and started to crumble so whether this is normal I dont know but I do live 10 miles from acoal fired power staion ??

that's a pity as they look so authentic - an exact replica of the real thing. I wonder if like real clay tiles they absorb moisture? A couple of hard frosts and they could start to break up - a solution might be to give them a coat of matt polteruthane varnish or something like it to the finished roof? Anyway they are far from cheap (but neither are some of the alternative sheet products) and fiddly to apply. After going all round the houses (pun), I may go back to a "Mikey" slate roof at nil cost (thanks again Mike)

Persevere with it Brian. there must be a way of recreating these tiles in plastic. Perhaps cutting a tube in half? I want some on my houses so i will be blatantly copying whatever you do!!

Just to clarify, I should have emphasised that the Bloxx blocks I tested were the large rectangular solid blocks, which badly "decomposed" over a 2 year period. On reflection this may have been caused by acid rain.

I did not test the tiles, so they may be OK, but I would not assume they will last outside indefinitely without testing them.

Not really railway related, but I found a reference on Buntbahn to a site selling 1:24 scale Berliet lorries - quite pricey I guess, which suggests a decent build quality, level of detail etc:

J'imagine que vous êtes tous plus ou moins confrontés à des besoins en fournitures, qu'il vous arrive parfois de rechercher, en vain, l'un ou l'autre matériaux non disponibles chez votre détaillant du coin, que pensez-vous de regrouper quelques liens de fournisseurs en ligne.
