... the newly acquired one, that is...

A quick run light engine, to try and get a feel for the controls:

... Numerous unexplained derailments told me that all was not right with the wheel gauging - sure enough, it was a little under-gauge, but we soon put that right! Then a quick top-up of water and gas, and on to some passenger hauling duties:

... and finally, some goods work:

Not a bad little runner, once I'd gotten used to the controls. The reverser mechanism is different to my Lady Anne, and is less accessible. So I stuck to radio control today - the down-side of which was that taking pics of it running was something of a challenge. When up to pressure, she strolled away up my newly-reduced incline with 9 wagons on, and I would say plenty steam enough to haul more if I had them. I am officially: happy! afro

Strange about the gauge Clive. I never had any derailments here. Different environment and different trackwork perhaps.

The Hackworth valve gear and reversing are not the same action and response as the 'semi Walschaerts'. I think the Hackworth is better. It behaves more like a car clutch and you can 'slip' it a bit. It has a degree of variable cut off.

Nice set of pictures and it looks very much at home 'chez toi'.
