On that subject, i'd be interested in knowing the steps to making the building as a whole - you can keep the roof a secret if you like! - any pics of progress along the way?

Sorry, no real stage photos but the basic construction was from old 5mm exterior ply - recycled from Football Ground Hoardings befor ethey went digital.

Glued with exterior pva, and reinforced with corner fillets.

Each roof was given a coating of epoxy resin and reiforced with glass fibre mat.

I was in a quandary with the roofs until I met Mikey, my original plan was to try and sculpt roman tiles out of car body filler - glad I didn't go that route!

The exterior cladding - artificial logs roughly split out of 10mm Balsa sheet.

Apart from glass fibre resin and mat everything else was left over materials to hand - you have quite a lot when you've spent the last two years converting a barn to live in!

The original inspiration came from Continental Modeller - a couple of articles on Chamby early last year.

The Fat Controller decided that the bottleneck at "Pont sur Escargot" was too risky and has decreed a further change of layout at the CFHC and the construction of a new bridge. Thereby seperating the "Haute" and " Bas" lines and reducing collision risk with head on traffic.

Work has also started on a crane wagon based on a set of bogies purchased from Carl, a Stainz cab and a bit of brasswork for the jib ....


Perhaps you can see the idea, the cab will swivel ....

nice work Brian, no end of possibilities there. Like the crane (cant you make it live steam?)

Now that looks canny Brian. Glad those bogies came in useful.

Maybe we should create a separate thread for this as it is an interesting developing project in it's own right?

By all means split out the crane thread Carl, but don't expect quick progress as I've that and my French building project running concurrently with general improvements to the trackbed, signalling and control etc. Really depends on the weather - wet days see me in the workshop on the crane and building and fine days I'm outside playing

So this morning....

I have rewired the light in the Piko signal box as the original wiring (ex Ebay) was decidedly intermittent.

Tested the carriage lighting from my E Lok which didn't work last night, assuming a DCC fault, it turned out to be a loose analogue terminal.

Also Turnout 12 the switch before the goods shed went US last night - again a loose analogue connection and not a fault with decoder wich I suspected!

So finally had a couple of very satisfying runs with the now Manual Edrig before putting everything away as rain threatens!

The new mayor, without consultation has granted permission for a new hamlet to be developed in the grounds of Domaine d'Etang. The diggers moved in overnight and have already cleared the wild boar hunting grounds near the lake for redevelopment.



The Count is naturally livid, particularly as he has just paid from his private purse to have the platforms extended at La Courriere for the good of the commune.

Not of the urban type surely.

They said they were going to built a hamlet round here. Only three letters were correct out of that word H - L - M.

No no just a rural development, a service station, high rise tenement block and a cinema

Have been doing more concreting though - levelling the track bed that descends from Coin du Peche

That New Mayor is a nightmare, he's already sanctioned a Monsieur Barrat from Angleterre to develop the new site!
Within a day EDF had supplied mains lighting for all the proposed homes, poured concrete everywhere and started on the show home ...



A young couple of prospective buyers were taxied from the station to view the properties ...



They were put off by the proximity to what appears either to be a petrol station or a scrap yard - the local Gendarme was called to investigate ...





When questioned M. Barratt cited that the development will one day be beautiful as evidenced by the well he was installing in the Piazza ...

No sooner had I extended the bridge from Gare d'Etang to Moulin Escargot this afternoon, than this character hopped into view.

One of a pair that have made the etang their home. The paint on the handrails wasn't even dry !

Spent a bit of time on the building - other thread.

Made a crossing for the Miller and his wife to get across the tracks from the Moulin Escargot ...

Not sure how I missed this addition to the thread, but now that I have seen it - nice pics, like the rickety bridge too. What's the material you've used to make the pathway from the bridge to the other side of the track?

It's actually some tile mortar I had left over from the kitchen! It's supposed to be Grey (Gris) but came out rather lighter than on the packet. I normally do these things in ordinary 4:1 cement mortar which leaves a nice rough texture, but have run out of cement until I pass Resau Pro again!

No work on the various projects today.

Have spent most of the time tidying up and "gardening" the line in readiness for tomorrow's open day

Just had a PM from Laurent he's made it onto the TGV and heading South West as I write!

So time for one last dip in the pool before heading to meet him and Pierre at Angouleme
