This is one for ‘Paul of the Stainz’ I now he has added extra weight to some of his locos. I have an LGB DR Steam Loco 99 6001 2-6-2 that is a poor performer re grip going up inclines, it is supposed to weigh 3180 g but only weighs 2857 g for some strange reason. I have cut some lead to bring it up to 3398 g but the question is should I go for more than that? I have it apart as I am installing an XLS sound decoder.

Peter, an all in weight of 3398g should make a considerable difference to the haulage capacity of the loco. Try it on your steepest grades with a decent train behind it. I personnally wouldn't add any more weight than what you suggest. I think it is safe to assume that your new loco weight is not excessive, after all, LGB's forney weighs 3400g in an 0-4-4 configuration with the same Buhler motor, so a 2-6-2 set up should be fine.

Thanks Paul I will give it a try, when I have worked out where to put the lighting wires and the smoke gen wires on the new Massoth XLS sound decoder board that I am fitting. I am taking out the LGB 11 decoder and the generic LGB steam sound unit that was already fitted.
