Good to see it running again... slower and smother.
So what adjustments did you actually make?
I see from the film there are some other add-ons since St Aubin, a Cyclone type battery and a different exhaust I spy. ...
Have you progressed with the body at all?

The only adjustments I made were to the mixture really.Add that to the fact that I've stopped driving it like a racing car! A friend came over and asked for it to be started. It hadn't run since St Aubin but it kicked into life after a refuel and.....you know how it is the interest kicks back in. The additional battery has always been there, but never used as yet.It was installed after reading one of your posts about keeping the glowplug fed. It's there if needed. Since it's all been been settled in the bodywork can be built now really. But I still sort of like the raw animal look. Exhaust is the same, but I'd like your advice next time we meet about your various exhaust boxes.it needs to be a bit quieter and deeper.

So to make it run slower you must have made the mixture (over) richer and someone once told me this was called 'gurgling'.
Does the glow plug still remain adequately lit with it richer ?
There are anti-flood plugs about that have a sort of shroud on them to avoid the plug being saturated. I've never tried one though.
I need to rebuild an exhaust box for one of mine but I'm also going to try some something else.
The wooden boxes work ok but rubber or soft plastic is better for deadening the sound. A very long length of silicon tube almost nullifies the sound completely.
I will get mine out this weekend and prepare them for the show in a couple of weeks.

Enjoyable film, good to see it running. Reminds me of one of my early ('hands on') vids in Chelles.
I saw the naff comment on You Tube from a crossdressing fan.

Very nice movie indeed! I would love to see it run the whole loop when the loop is finnished.

After not starting in St Aubin a serious look at the engine was in order. I discovered that the cylinder head was a bit loose, not good, but after tightening the problems were still there. It's a bit tricky dealing with a tiny engine, air fuel, compression ect,so I took the whole thing out, threw it away and fitted a new engine that I had to hand. Problem solved.Perfect running and starting. Today the pullstart failed. Ho Hum.Grit teeth, hide hammer and source replacement.

This is new and seems like a good gadget or rather a decent tool. I like the fact that it is operated directly from the receiver output on the same channel as the throttle servo. Although I think it would be useful to have a bypass switch so the glo plug could be operated independantly of the throttle. That would be simple to do though.
I think I'll order one.
That's a bummer with your pullstart. There are spares usually available for Kyosho but will you have it in time for Paris?

My tickover glow switch arrived today.Good service. I also remembered to order a 'y' lead for the reciever. This will be needed to fit the gadget in line with the throttle channel. All looks very nice but waiting for a replacement pullstart to arrive before I can set it all up. Hoping tomorrow.

Well.I was able to give the whole thing a bit of time today and it was sort of time well spent. I really ought to strip the whole thing down and start again with lessons learnt, but then again it's like a first born. I fitted the glow switch thing.......brilliant. I fitted the new pullstart.............brilliant I broke the generator mount. I rebuilt the generator mount. I started the engine and it nearly stripped the clutch housing due to the engine trying to escape from the chassis. I refixed the engine. Engine would start but not run very well.An ongoing problem. But ! then I noticed that the tube to the exhaust (which gives the fuel tank pressure)was getting blocked with gunk I turned the exhaust so it's pointing down and it cleared out all manner of crap. Please note if you have a torpedo exhaust. It will fill up with fluid and prevent the fuel tank pressure. Everything now is pretty good, but I only have forward drive for some reason. I'm not touching anything else until after Expo. Very impressed with the glowplug low rev gizmo though.

Hi Troy, can i just ask: What size is your brushless motor? in KV?

Any other questions should be put to the forum as it provides a database for others to use. Carl also listed the separate diodes to use to build one.

A few random pictures from the shed last night.... No problem lengthwise.it's just very narrow. I'll continue today.

These are things I've been looking at to try and get slim: Mounting the BLDC motor directly inline but above the clutch gear. A flat exhaust manifold soldered from copper or brass. Making a bracket or arm to keep the pull start handle tucked in somehow.
BTW, I received the 'Digital Glo Driver' that you had in operation at Railexpo. What a great piece of kit and has imaginative switching possibilities beyond the glow plug.

I find the exhaust is the main problem.I'm using the smaller of my exhausts and I'm going to try and mount a silencing box somewhere before it exits the body. I've left the generator in line as I'm going to build a shelf over the top for the rectifier. Fuel tank will go in the cab and batteries ect on the back end.I'm going to get some smaller servos on Saturday if I can. The engine is over one side so I can access the pullstart with a flip down cover without removing the body.Hole in the roof for the glowstick.

What's under the front bonnet and are you going to use the space between the bogies for something?

Still playing with the bodywork.I'll work on this more closely when it's running.
