Oooh - New loco - Whassit Paul?

Tell us more Wink

Its a Roundhouse Billy named "Duncan"
It was built from a kit by a guy who ran it once (The wheels were unmarked)
It has R/C and runs very smoothly indeed (Well I had to test it three times didn't I ?)
Compared with the recommended retail price of £1328, this was a steal.
Bought off Steve Warrington stand - Back2Bay6. Very Happy

Shame about the Stainz but that is an excellent purchase Paul, It's as good as Roundhouse gets to a decent continental loco and one of my favourites of theirs.
Despite my modest criticism of Roundhouse I don't think you will be at all disappointed and the slot head screws are easy to replace if need be!

David.
I can assure people that on every occassion I have dealt with Regner for parts they have been very prompt and helpful.
The last order I placed (of long list of small parts) was by fax late on a Monday afternon which arrived on Thursday morning of the same week.
No German speaking required just an understanding of the order form.

I ran out of steam oil once just before an exhibition and they had some delivered the next day direct to the exhibition site with no extra charge for express post/courrier.

Roundhouse are good for service and Mike Ousby for Accucraft spares too.

BTW, Regner did make some 32mm locos (apart from Willis etc.) namely 'Mona' and a rare 32mm version of 'Hanna' but they didn't sell apparently.....

I have a couple of LGB loop couplings which look like they will fit under the existing centre buffers without any modification. Smile

It looks like my search for a Regner Stainz is over. Smile
One of these will be sent over from Germany next week when the bank transfer is completed.
I got a tip from a fellow G scale and live steam enthusiast in Holland who speaks fluent German, English and of course, Dutch).
I will need to fit a 2.4 Ghz receiver to it and get a handset to control it (The German frequency is illegal in the UK).

Ausgezeichnet, Paul. Get the camera warmed up. It'll be interesting to see some side by side comparisons with the rest of your fleet.

I have found out that 2 batches of Stainz lok were produced.

The first batch were as per my picture, 200 were made, the one being sent to me is #139.
The second batch were replicas of the loco that ran on the SalzkammerGutLokalBahn (SKGLB) in all black with a straight stack and straight backed cab, also 200 were made.

Both batches were made between 2003 and 2005, so availability of new ones will be zero unless a dealer has one tucked away somewhere.

The last new one I saw was at the 2007 Welshpool and Llanfair show on Martin's Models stand - it was priced at
£1800.
At that time, live steam was but a daydream, and I was busy buying LGB as they had gone bust and there were models I "needed".
I am paying 1350 Euros (£1200 ?), but I need to buy a 2.4 GHz handset and receiver..........
This was me im 2007 with said loco at Martin's Models stand..........

Very Happy

I opened the Fedex box at about 4.30, so too dark to run (unless I run it on my indoor track).
I need to fit the 2.4 GHz R/R and locate a new battery box in the cab before its ready to go outdoors.

Lots of pics and videos to follow Wink

At last......Wink
Looks very clean and unblemished from the photo.
I see a working headlamp, and a shiny brass centre buffer!

If you need any advice then please ask. It is essentially the same mechanical locomotive as my Chiemseebahn.

They are rather different to run than Roundhouse and there are a few tips if you want.

Thanks Carl, Clive - my first task is to fit 2.4 GHz R/C.
I have the gear to do it, I need to sit down and study the instructions throughly.
The guy that sold me the loco was very helpful indeed and gave me a few tips.
(Like the gas lasts longer than the water so it needs filling every ten minutes or so - there is a sight glass fitted in the cab too).

He ran it with th ebatteries and the receiver in a tender.
I intend to fit the receiver and the batteries in the loco - receiver underneath and the batteries either in the cab or underneath too.

I would be interested in how your friend that owns a black version tackled those two items.
