Looks very clean and unblemished from the photo.
I see a working headlamp, and a shiny brass centre buffer!

If you need any advice then please ask. It is essentially the same mechanical locomotive as my Chiemseebahn.

They are rather different to run than Roundhouse and there are a few tips if you want.

Thanks Carl, Clive - my first task is to fit 2.4 GHz R/C.
I have the gear to do it, I need to sit down and study the instructions throughly.
The guy that sold me the loco was very helpful indeed and gave me a few tips.
(Like the gas lasts longer than the water so it needs filling every ten minutes or so - there is a sight glass fitted in the cab too).

He ran it with th ebatteries and the receiver in a tender.
I intend to fit the receiver and the batteries in the loco - receiver underneath and the batteries either in the cab or underneath too.

I would be interested in how your friend that owns a black version tackled those two items.

I am pretty sure my friend Daniel fitted the receiver underneath the loco and the batteries were loose in the cab but sometimes he ran with them in a trailing wagon.

There wasn't enough room for batteries underneath beacause of the servo for the cylinder drain cocks.

I took my servo off for that and just operate them manually with a small stick.

Has yours got a water fill valve?
If not it would be worth getting one from Regner.
There are 2 types, ref.20230 with a bracket fitting (winkel.....) and ref. 20235 a stud fitting.

The boiler is quite small in these engines but very efficient due to the cross tubing construction and it will literally drink water.
I have to top up mine every 5-10 mins depending on load. They can quickly run out of water
as I have done a couple of times.

The servo for the valve gear needs to by quite powerful as the arm and linkage need a firm movement.
Thus the battery pack needs to by quite powerful too. I found 600Mah no good after about 15 mins use especially if you are using lights.

Thanks Carl.

The filler spout is as per the real loco - see side funnel on the pic.
I can "inject" water here with a plastic syringe - I think.

The guy that built it has fitted a whistle inside the frames plus a manual lever inside the cab for the drain cocks.
So, provided the whistle outlet is pointing away from the receiver/batteries, I may be okay to fit both underneath.

I am "well chuffed" with the loco.
It oozes quality.

Well done Paul! Got your hands on it at last!

It's very unfair posting pictures of live steam Regners alongside plastic LGB, it makes me Stainz Green with envy No

Paul, how big is it when side by side with the already large-ish i9n 1:22,5 LGB Stainz?

I was wondering if the smaller locos from Regner also suffer from "Roundhouse Elephantitis"? But then scaling down steam locos is a toughy in the smaller scales in all the makers' defense.

Looks well at home there, Paul, regardless of the rain. I guess your soul is now on eBay, waiting for the devil to do a 'BIN'... But who cares, you've got what you wanted!

Nice one.

Very nice Paul. just to go back a couple of posts to the size comparison; does
Regner build his locos to a precise scale? If so what is it. It doesnt look big enough for 1.18 (but could be if the LGB model is oversized!)

The regner looks a bit bigger, but is it the picture or the wheel on the regner looks smaller ?

Nice one.

On the contrary Clive, I've sold some track, wagons, a spare MTS II control system and an LGB auotmated cable car set to fund half of the purchase.
My Roundhouse Billy is for sale at the moment.

Mikey, the Regner Stainz is not to scale (neither is LGBs), because if they were at 1:22, they would be running on 34.5mm gauge track.
The LGB Stainz is approximately 1:19 but the "rubber ruler" is in evidence in several locations.

My take on LGB's interpretations of scale is that in general they look right, and that is good enough for me.

Hello chaps from stressmovingville!

Paul that is just great and the first time I've seen a pic of a Regner and LGB Stainz together.

Going by past comments and discussions elsewhere the Regner is probably built to 1:20 which is a compromise.
He generally builds the 760mm prototypes to this scale. Although in the catalogue it says the Stainz is 1:22.5 that would mean it should run on 34mm track!

1:18 would be look too big for such a dimunitive loco against LGB stock and actually 760 divided by 45 equates to 16.8 which would be huge.

The Stainz shares it's main components with the Chiemseebahn which was a metre gauge prototype and which mine is nearly to correct scale 1:22 hence everything being slightly bigger...except perhaps the wheels!

I hope all that's clear.... study Shocked

I'll get back to my packing now.....

Looking good in its natural habitat there Paul. Thanks for posting the pix.

Unfortunately, with it being bigger, you could not convince the Mrs. that it was one of the many other Lehmann Stainz around the house then eh?
